How do I choose the right shoes for my kids?

shoes for my kids

From 2 – 5 years old, kids feet will grow on average a half size every 4 months

While it may feel like you are replacing their shoes every second week, it is crucial to make sure your kids shoes are fitted properly as poorly fitted shoes can cause problems with their gait, posture and balance. Kids bones are still soft so shoes that are too small can affect the structure and alignment of their feet.

Length

Check to make sure that the child’s longest toe (this may not be the big toe) is about a child’s thumb width from the end of the shoe so there is room for them to grow.

Width

Make sure the shoe is wide enough and matches the shape of the child’s foot. You do not want to a shoe that is too narrow causing blisters and distortion of your child’s foot shape.

Hell

If possible, choose a shoe that has a closed back. This will help support the heel as your child grows. This is even the case in sandals.

Walking

Last but not least, watch your child go for a walk in their new shoes, making sure they can walk normally and that the shoe is not slipping around the heel.
